The Role of Peace and Justice Activists in a Presidential Election Year

What:

Hosted by Student Advocates for Global Equality at IUPUI and sponsored by a number of organizations in the Indianapolis area, the Midwest Peace and Justice Summit is an opportunity for grassroots networks, community organizers and political activists from all across the Midwest to meet and find out more about each other in an effort to promote -- as per the theme -- peace and justice. Activists, organizers, politically minded individuals and the community at large are invited to share their ideas about everything from volunteering to the electoral process.

More details:

The summit will be held on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) on Saturday, April 5, 2008. All events will be held in the IT building on the corner of Michigan and West. A map indicating the correct building is provided here, and directions are available here. We will also host a cultural meet and greet the previous evening on Friday, April 4. More details will be announced at a later date.

Parking is free to summit attendees. Please carpool to minimize traffic usage, and then park in the lot west of the IT Building.

No prior registration is necessary; we will, however, have registration sheets at the door for those who are interested in being contacted by specific grassroots organizations.

Summit Outline

This year, the summit format will be modified slightly from in the past. Friday will consist of a peace rally and dramatic presentations. On Saturday, there will be two plenary sessions and three workshops, each broken down according to theme. These will include healthcare initiatives, peace policies, the upcoming elections, the War in Iraq and non-electoral alternatives.
